Official Ground Breaking Ceremony, Huron Boat Basin Facility
October 19, 2000

HURON, Ohio - Today officials with the City of Huron and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Watercraft joined together to officially break ground on the construction of the newest building at the Huron Boat Basin facility. The facility will house new restrooms, showers and a registration area for marina users.

According to Huron Parks and Recreation Department Director Gary Packan, the building will allow the city to provide more services to the marina's customers. "Presently, we are limited in the services we can provide our customers," said Packan. "The new building will allow us to offer more amenities to visiting boaters that will hopefully serve as a greater drawing factor."

The grants are funded through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund, comprised of boat registration fees and a portion of the state motor fuel tax. According to the Division of Watercraft, the grants awarded this year represent the largest amount awarded for boating access and improvement in a single year.

breaking.

According to Division of Watercraft Chief Jeff Hoedt, improving and increasing boating access is important to boaters. "Our constituents consistently tell us that access to Ohio's waterways should be our top priority," said Hoedt. "These projects help improve access to our state's popular waterways, making it easier for Ohioans and out-of-state visitors to enjoy Ohio's outstanding boating and fishing opportunities."

Thank you all who attended the ceremony and to ODNR Watercraft for making this project a reality.
