Notable Premieres Highlight Lake Michigan’s Biggest In-Water Boat Show

Whether in the market for a new boat or not, it's always exciting to see the latest power and sailboats for the first time. Many never-before-seen 2006 models will be part of the 500 boat international fleet at the 26th annual Michigan City In-Water Boat Show.

Yacht Works will have the first showing of the Italian-built Cranchi at a boat show in the Midwest. The Cranchi Mediterranee 50 is the flagship of the Cranchi line and has achieved worldwide recognition for being a solid state-of-the-art and beautifully crafted vessel. Sporting traditional European flair, the Cranchi 41 will be unveiled in Michigan City.

Winner in the Fishing Boats category for innovative achievement at the 2005 NMMA Innovation Awards in Miami, the Everglades 290 Pilot will be making her first appearance ever at the Michigan City Boat Show. A high-end offshore family fishing boat packed with features, the 29 will be on display in Michigan City courtesy of Yacht Works of Sister Bay, WI.

Suitable for offshore sailing or cruising in the harbor, Karma Yacht Sales of Chicago will be premiering the Beneteau 423 in Michigan City. Combining a confident blue water hull with extraordinary comfort, the 423 offers gorgeous interior woodwork, loads of volume and plenty of light that will satisfy even the most scrupulous of sailors.

Featuring a stable, dry deep-V hull and the sturdy character of a classic Maine lobster boat, the new Back Cove 26 can venture anywhere safely. Spacious, comfortable and fully equipped, the 26 is ideally suited for evening harbor cruises with friends or weekend escapes with family. Sunset Coast Yacht Sales, of New Buffalo, MI, will have the 26 and 29 at in Michigan City.

A rededication to the fly bridge sport fishing boat designed and manufactured for performance and function, the all-new Tiara 3900 Convertible maintains the comfort and style expected from Tiara Yachts. Considered by many to be the "Rolls Royce" of powerboats, Tiara Yachts of Holland, MI will be unveiling the new 3900 Convertible at the Boat Show.

Larsen Marine of Waukegan, IL will be showing a number of new 2006 model power and sailboats. Built using traditional Jeanneau construction with Kevlar reinforcement, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 is a sailboat that exudes enormous power due to her optimized underwater hull shape, maximum waterline length, plumb bow, moderate beam and generous sail plan.

Known and recognized the world over for her classic lines, intelligent layout, and warm and lustrous interior and meticulous craftsmanship inside and out, the Grand Banks 43 Eastbay HX will debut in Michigan City, courtesy of Larsen Marine.

Bob Vila of Boating Takes Center Stage Pledge

Ship Shape TV. It's the Home Improvement of the boating world but there's no bumbling Tim Taylor. Rather, the affable and accomplished John Greviskis writes, produces, directs, and stars in the weekly TV series that reaches over 70 million homes on Fox Sports Net, the Sunshine Cable Network and satellite TV.

Catering to both sail and powerboat owners, Ship Shape TV is more than just another how-to show. It educates and motivates people to feel better about boating. Greviskis says that too many people have given up boating because they perceive maintenance to be too big a factor. It's not. By watching his show, he hopes boaters will be better prepared to do basic maintenance and enjoy learning ways to even improve their boats.

Appearing Thursday through Saturday, offering boat trailering seminars and greeting show goers, Greviskis will be presented at the Boat Show by the Chicagoland Area GMC Dealers.

This unique "theater" allows the audience to watch the lures cast into the water and see how the bass react to the various presentations.

With Lots to See and Do, Michigan City is more than Just the Boat Show

From top-notch gaming opportunities to miles of beaches and hundreds of wild animals, there’s more to do in Michigan City that than just the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show. Whether in town for the day or the entire weekend, there’s something fun for everyone in the whole family.

“Michigan City has grown tremendously in the past dozen or so years,” said show manager and founder Norm Schultz. “No longer is it a one-day boat show visit. Michigan City has more than enough high quality attractions and things to do. It’s now a getaway weekend for anyone and any family within driving distance.”

The most popular attraction for many is the Blue Chip Casino. Open 24/7, the casino itself sports more than 1,700 slot machines, plus Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Three-card Poker, Mini-Baccarat and more. Additionally, there are three on-site restaurants and a 184-room hotel.

Guests can see over 90 animal exhibits within walking distance of the boat show and the shores of Lake Michigan at the Washington Park Zoo. Season pass holders at more than 90 other zoos nationwide may also receive free admission, as the zoo has a reciprocal agreement.

At the Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets, there are more than 120 outlet stores, including Burberry, Coach, Crate & Barrel, Liz Claiborne, Polo and Ralph Lauren.

Those in town by boat will want to contact the Michigan City Port Authority. One of Lake Michigan's largest municipal marinas, there are over 500 slips (including transient dockage).

“There are also golf courses, museums, public gardens and a lot more to see and do in Michigan City. What’s great is that all of the attractions are really close together. If I had any sort of drive to get to the Michigan City Boat Show, I’d seriously consider making this a getaway for my entire family,” Schultz concluded.
