Now less than a week away (September 14-18), the Great Lakes' biggest in-water boat show is coming together at Cedar Point Marina in Sandusky, Ohio. What most people don't realize is that the in-water portion of the show is a temporary marina built in less than two weeks time by boat show staffers. Consisting of approximately 300 10'x10' docks, each weighing about 1,000 pounds, it's a monumental effort. That's 300,000 pounds of docks!
Throw in the over 700 power and sailboats, in-water and on land, ranging in size and value from 6' and a few hundred dollars to 60+ and more than $1 million, the show (now celebrating its 33rd year) is a testament to its founder and manager Norm Schultz. Involved in boating his entire life, Norm continues to take a hands-on approach to show management ("pushing docks," running the fork lifts, and anything and everything else necessary to make the show a success).
