=======================================

Remote Controlled Boat Technology Unveiled: Queen of Fleet Crowned

The latest gadgets and hottest new boats are what make the annual Michigan City In-Water Boat Show a can’t-miss for diehard boaters. This year, a state-of-the-art wireless remote control docking system and a 70’ high-speed cruising machine, which has been named “Queen” of the boat show fleet, are standout attractions. Lake Michigan’s biggest in-water boat show drops anchor August 25-28 at Washington Park Marina in Michigan City, Indiana.

Everyone associated with boats either as owners or spectators has experienced problems when maneuvering in confined spaces, especially when docking. Be it difficulty communicating with crew or a captain alone at the helm, some tight quarters situations can prove nerve wracking. To obtain total control while docking or mooring a boat, the Yacht Controller Corporation created the Yacht Controller.

Winner of the 2004 National Marine Manufacturers Association’s Award for Consumer Electronics, the Yacht Controller allows the skipper to be anywhere on board and successfully maneuver his boat. The system’s wireless compact remote - which can be worn around the neck or on the wrist so that hands are free to assist – controls the engines, stern thruster, anchor windlass, and bow thruster (which control all forward, backward and sideways movements).

Whenever maneuvering in restricted or crowded situations such as marinas, Yacht Controller allows the boat operator to be in the best position either forward or aft to oversee the operation and to ensure the safety of the vessel and all others in the vicinity.

Boat Technologies, Inc. of Eleroy, IL will have a Yacht Controller equipped boat on display at the Michigan City Boat Show providing demonstrations.

With the American feel of a yacht that looks European from the outside, the new Viking Sport Cruisers 70 Motor Yacht raises the bar in comfort, elegance and performance. Shown at Michigan City by Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales of St. Clair Shores, MI the 70 is “Queen” of the 2005 Michigan City Boat Show fleet.

This high speed cruising machine, which features are a smooth, dry ride, averages a top speed of just over 46 mph thanks to two standard 1,360-bhp MAN diesel inboards (two 1,675-bhp Caterpillar C32 diesel inboards are optional).

While the teak-planked afterdeck is ideal for relaxing, the port and starboard steps flanking the lounge lead to the swim platform for easy boarding or accessing a tender. The salon makes excellent use of the wide beam and allows ample seating for family and guests. A spiral stairway leads to the bridge and a door adjacent to the stairs allows quick access to the portside deck.

The galley has a sliding partition which can be opened or closed for convenience and privacy as needed. Opposite the helm station, an inviting dinette is made even more attractive with wraparound windows providing superb views at the dock and underway.

On the lower deck, the owner’s suite is full beam with an in suite head. Three additional staterooms, each with accommodations for two, provides luxurious surroundings for long distance cruising. A fifth stateroom with a private head accommodates a crew of two.

Notable Premieres Highlight Lake Michigan’s Biggest In-Water Boat Show

Whether in the market for a new boat or not, it's always exciting to see the latest power and sailboats for the first time. Many never-before-seen 2006 models will be part of the 500 boat international fleet at the 26th annual Michigan City In-Water Boat Show.

Yacht Works will have the first showing of the Italian-built Cranchi at a boat show in the Midwest. The Cranchi Mediterranee 50 is the flagship of the Cranchi line and has achieved worldwide recognition for being a solid state-of-the-art and beautifully crafted vessel. Sporting traditional European flair, the Cranchi 41 will be unveiled in Michigan City.

Winner in the Fishing Boats category for innovative achievement at the 2005 NMMA Innovation Awards in Miami, the Everglades 290 Pilot will be making her first appearance ever at the Michigan City Boat Show. A high-end offshore family fishing boat packed with features, the 29 will be on display in Michigan City courtesy of Yacht Works of Sister Bay, WI.

Suitable for offshore sailing or cruising in the harbor, Karma Yacht Sales of Chicago will be premiering the Beneteau 423 in Michigan City. Combining a confident blue water hull with extraordinary comfort, the 423 offers gorgeous interior woodwork, loads of volume and plenty of light that will satisfy even the most scrupulous of sailors.

Featuring a stable, dry deep-V hull and the sturdy character of a classic Maine lobster boat, the new Back Cove 26 can venture anywhere safely. Spacious, comfortable and fully equipped, the 26 is ideally suited for evening harbor cruises with friends or weekend escapes with family. Sunset Coast Yacht Sales, of New Buffalo, MI, will have the 26 and 29 at in Michigan City.

A rededication to the fly bridge sport fishing boat designed and manufactured for performance and function, the all-new Tiara 3900 Convertible maintains the comfort and style expected from Tiara Yachts. Considered by many to be the "Rolls Royce" of powerboats, Tiara Yachts of Holland, MI will be unveiling the new 3900 Convertible at the Boat Show.

Larsen Marine of Waukegan, IL will be showing a number of new 2006 model power and sailboats. Built using traditional Jeanneau construction with Kevlar reinforcement, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 is a sailboat that exudes enormous power due to her optimized underwater hull shape, maximum waterline length, plumb bow, moderate beam and generous sail plan.

Known and recognized the world over for her classic lines, intelligent layout, and warm and lustrous interior and meticulous craftsmanship inside and out, the Grand Banks 43 Eastbay HX will debut in Michigan City, courtesy of Larsen Marine.

Bob Vila of Boating Takes Center Stage Pledge

Ship Shape TV. It's the Home Improvement of the boating world but there's no bumbling Tim Taylor. Rather, the affable and accomplished John Greviskis writes, produces, directs, and stars in the weekly TV series that reaches over 70 million homes on Fox Sports Net, the Sunshine Cable Network and satellite TV.

Catering to both sail and powerboat owners, Ship Shape TV is more than just another how-to show. It educates and motivates people to feel better about boating. Greviskis says that too many people have given up boating because they perceive maintenance to be too big a factor. It's not. By watching his show, he hopes boaters will be better prepared to do basic maintenance and enjoy learning ways to even improve their boats.

Appearing Thursday through Saturday, offering boat trailering seminars and greeting show goers, Greviskis will be presented at the Boat Show by the Chicagoland Area GMC Dealers.

Check John’s seminar schedule by following this link: http://michigancityboatshow.com/mc-attractions.shtml#shipshape
From top-notch gaming opportunities to miles of beaches and hundreds of wild animals, there’s more to do in Michigan City that than just the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show. Whether in town for the day or the entire weekend, there’s something fun for everyone in the whole family.

“Michigan City has grown tremendously in the past dozen or so years,” said show manager and founder Norm Schultz. “No longer is it a one-day boat show visit. Michigan City has more than enough high quality attractions and things to do. It’s now a getaway weekend for anyone and any family within driving distance.”

The most popular attraction for many is the Blue Chip Casino. Open 24/7, the casino itself sports more than 1,700 slot machines, plus Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Three-card Poker, Mini-Baccarat and more. Additionally, there are three on-site restaurants and a 184-room hotel.

Guests can see over 90 animal exhibits within walking distance of the boat show and the shores of Lake Michigan at the Washington Park Zoo. Season pass holders at more than 90 other zoos nationwide may also receive free admission, as the zoo has a reciprocal agreement.

At the Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets, there are more than 120 outlet stores, including Burberry, Coach, Crate & Barrel, Liz Claiborne, Polo and Ralph Lauren.

Those in town by boat will want to contact the Michigan City Port Authority. One of Lake Michigan's largest municipal marinas, there are over 500 slips (including transient dockage).

“There are also golf courses, museums, public gardens and a lot more to see and do in Michigan City. What’s great is that all of the attractions are really close together. If I had any sort of drive to get to the Michigan City Boat Show, I’d seriously consider making this a getaway for my entire family,” Schultz concluded.

No doubt the hundreds of power and sailboats, not to mention the four big tents filled with marine products, are the main reasons for attending the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show. But it's the fun attractions that keep people coming back year after year. Several new additions, including the "Bob Vila" of boating and a 4,000 gallon fishing "pond," are set for the 26th annual Michigan City In-Water Boat Show. Lake Michigan's biggest in-water boat show drops anchor August 25-28 at Washington Park Marina in Michigan City, Indiana.

Another new attraction is a 4,000 gallon aquarium-on-wheels, the Hawg Tank. Boasting 40' of glass sides through which visitors watch the bass and other species of fish in the tank, a bass angling professional gives periodic live seminars. This unique "theater" allows the audience to watch the lures cast into the water and see how the bass react to the various presentations.

Of course, the international fleet of over 500 power and sailboats always takes top billing. "We're able to offer a huge selection of boats, from small daysailers and personal watercraft to 70' luxury motor yachts priced at more than $2 million," says Show manager Norm Schultz. "August is also the month when the boating industry typically begins introducing its newest models, and many 2006 models will be on public display for the first time anywhere."

The Brokerage Pier is a smart choice for the first-time boat buyer or the seasoned skipper who wants to upgrade. Boaters will discover a wide variety of quality pre-enjoyed boats just waiting for inspection.

"Just looking or actively in the market, there's no better venue to view boats than at the Michigan City Boat Show," Schultz points out. "We have dealers from throughout the Midwest, all in one location, and all seeking your business. This competitive atmosphere, and the fact that dealers want to end the sales season with a bang, makes it the best time to shop for a boat."

While the boats may be the show's headliners, the accessory displays are what every boater loves to browse through. The latest wave of new products from hundreds of marine accessory and equipment exhibitors will fill four big tents, showcasing everything from marine electronics and trailers to nautical clothing and sailing accessories.

Performing several times daily, Twiggy will cruise around a 25-foot circular pool towed behind her special radio-controlled Ski Nautique power boat. Spectators are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture Twiggy in action or be photographed with this amazing squirrel after each performance.

It's a great opportunity to learn hands-on that sailing is an affordable and enjoyable experience for the entire family.

The Party Barge, a floating pavilion with beverages and entertainment, is the perfect spot to catch up with boating buddies old and new over an ice cold beverage.

Finally, in an effort to introduce more youngsters to boating, all children 12 and under will receive free boat show admission (when accompanied by an adult).

Yacht Works will also have the first showing of the Italian-built Cranchi at a boat show in the Midwest. The Cranchi Mediterranee 50 is the flagship of the Cranchi line and has achieved worldwide recognition for being a solid state-of-the-art and beautifully crafted vessel. Sporting traditional European flair, the Cranchi 41 will be unveiled in Michigan City.
